Eileen Mougeot - CEO
Eileen Mougeot grew up in Cannan, Connecticut. She attended Simmons College in Boston and the Sorbonne University in Paris, where she lived and worked for 3 years while continuing her studies.
She moved to California in 1981 to begin a long career in real estate. Besides being in sales for many years, she became a board member and director of the privately owned company, Hill & Co Real Estate. While busy selling real estate, Eileen also became active in various non-profits. Before becoming a board member of Ethiopian Village Schools in 2013, she was on the board of the Marin Arts Council and the Tangible Hope Foundation.
Eileen travels to Ethiopia regularly where she visits the schools built by EVS. Seeing the kids grow and thrive in their new schools and seeing them participate in the various programs provided by EVS proves to be extremely rewarding. Eileen also is a student of the Afaan Oromo language. In addition to her work with EVS, Eileen travels around the world with her husband Charles. They love hiking and biking, and spending time with friends and family, which includes their 2 cats! -

Thomas Eusterbrock – CFO
Thomas joined EVS in 2012, shortly after its inception. During his first visit in Bilo, he saw the foundation for the first of our schools being laid. Much has happened in the 13 years since then. He has visited all of “our” schools on many occasions. He is originally from Germany, but has lived and worked as a pediatrician and neonatologist in the East Bay area of California for almost 40 years. He is now retired, but still travels to Ethiopia once or twice per year for a few weeks. Apart from the EVS project, he is also involved in another NGO ("Wax and Gold"), a group of neonatal nurses and physicians teaching pediatric residents, midwives and nurses in various areas of Ethiopia to provide quality care to premature and otherwise ill newborn infants. He has two adult sons and is married to his wife Denisia, who at the end of 2023 retired from a long career as an elementary school teacher. One of his sons is also a teacher, the other one a city planner. He spends a lot of his free time hiking with Denisia and their dog, and loves to listen to music, both live and recorded – and is a fan of Ethiopian music, in particular Ethiojazz. He likes to read papers and books, mostly related to recent history – and loves watching basketball together with his wife.

Girma Moti Tefera – Craftsman / Builder
Girma is the oldest child of Moti Tefera Dilalessa, graduated from Rift Valley University with a degree in civil engineering. After working a few years on his own, he joined his father's construction business. Together they worked on 3 of our latest school projects. We are confident that with Girma's experience and talent he is more than capable of taking over Moti's position. Girma is married with 3 children and lives in Ambo.

Lidiya graduated from Rift Valley University with a degree in accounting and a degree in design from Sally College in Addis Ababa. Lidiya is in charge of our sanitary pads program. Moti Dilalessa (In Memoriam) – Master Builder
Moti, the father of Girma, has been a foundational member of the EVSF team. Without Moti, none of what we have achieved, would have been possible. He, with his team, has built all the schools EVS has supported since 2012. His friendship, dedication and generosity, paired with his knowledge as a craftsman, were part of the spirit of EVS. Totally unexpected, Moti succumbed to a severe illness on (day) of 2025. He left behind a family, many close friends, and a legacy which will benefit thousands of students in Oromia for many years to come.
